The Virginia State Police provides a comprehensive and extensive investigation of most unlawful issues required by statute and established Department plan through the Bureau of Criminal research (BCI).
The Bureau is required to analyze any matter referred by the Governor.
The Attorney General, commonwealth's solicitors, chiefs of authorities, sheriffs and grand juries may request the Department to research things that constitute Class 1, a few felonies.
The Bureau additionally conducts investigations of chosen officials whenever directed because of the Governor, lawyer General or grand juries.
